Training – Saturday 27th October

As there is no match (for most of the squad) for a week or two, I would like to hold a team training session this Saturday at Braemar Road. This offers a great opportunity for us to work on one or two things before the games come thick and fast over the festive period.

Training will start at 10:30am and last for 90minutes. Please come suited and booted, ready to train.

Enjoy the rest of your half term lads.

The Phoenix is Rising

I had the pleasure of watching Phoenix United put eight goals past Cadbury Athletic  this morning and witnessed Jayden score four goals, whilst Darrell and Treymaine caused them all sorts of problems down the right hand side. The win cements Phoenix’s position at the top of the table and on this form they’ll certainly take some beating. I keep an eye on all of your respective teams and know exactly how well you’re doing for your Sunday teams. Here is the CWYL Premier Division:

Erdington Suffer Late Heartache for the Third Week in a Row!

Erdington and Saltley (Sahib )1 – 2 Kings Norton

Saturday 20th October @ Braemar Road

For the third week in a row. The Ton fell victim to a late goal. Football can be a the greatest game in the world but it can also be the cruelest.

Kicking off against the early season favourites, Kings Norton, The Ton looked to exert their authority on the game during the early stages. However, after losing the toss and being asked to play uphill in the first half, The Ton found it tough going. Kings Norton were the first to almost every ball and were generally sharper all round. The Ton just couldn’t get going, despite wearing their new Premier League quality kit, and found themselves defending deeper and deeper as the half went on. Despite this slow start, The Ton once again proved they were made of sterner stuff and took the lead when Sahib rifled home a near-post corner midway through the half. The remainder of the first half continued in the same vein as Kings Norton continued to press forward, whilst The Ton sat deep. The half-time whistle was met with relief all round from the Erdington and Saltley contingent.

The half-time team talk remained positive and the message delivered to the players was to ‘snap out of it’. Despite winning, we were playing with our heads slightly down and at times looked as if we were losing. Kings norton were once again the sharper of the two districts but it was Erdington and Saltley who had the first clear chance. A delightful far post corner from Trey was put agonisingly wide by Ellis-Jay. The score remained 1 – 0 to The Ton. With the clock ticking down, The Ton looked set to snatch the unlikeliest of victories. However, as I said earlier, football is cruel. Kings Norton poked home the ball when a dangerous corner was not cleared. There was only 5 minutes remaining with the scores level at one-a-piece. With the game hanging in the balance, Kings Norton fired in a shot from the left hand corner of the area, forcing Alex into a low save. Unfortunately the ball rebounded  out and the Kings Norton striker reacted first, stabbing home from a yard out. Ironically, this seemed to be the wake up call that The Ton needed all morning! With a handful of minutes left on the clock, Jayden moved into midfield and The Tone threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at Kings Norton. Several chances came their way but unfortunately the lads were unable to convert them.

We must learn some lessons from the past two league games, against South and Kings Norton, and move on. We are an exceptionally talented team and if we can cut out the odd costly mistake the season will still be a hugely successful one. The league is only three games old and nothing is won or lost in the first few weeks of the season. With one trophy already in the cabinet, I am hopeful that we’ll add another one or two as the year progresses.

Enjoy your rest lads but tell your parents to keep checking their phone as you never know what will come up for next Saturday. If we do not play next week, may I take this chance to wish the lads who are representing Birmingham the best of luck. Do us proud lads!

Team: Alex T, William, Sam, Jayden, Sahib, Ethan, Ellis Jay, Treymaine, Josh S, Cedric (Zane), Bailey.

Up The Ton!

Birmingham County Team

After much deliberation, the seven district managers plus other BPSFA officials have selected the quad for the first Birmingham County match of the season. On November 3rd, Birmingham Primary Schools will play Leeds Primary Schools at Braemar Road.

It was an incredibly difficult decision for all involved and Erdington and Saltley most definitely could have had more than the four permitted players following their heroics last Saturday. However, rules must be adhered to and each district is only allowed four representatives in the squad. Therefore the four players representing The Ton are:

  1. Jayden Ward
  2. Treymaine Morris-Griffiths
  3. Joshua Suhban
  4. Callum Brown

We should all be very proud of these four young men! I also want everyone to know that later on this season they’ll be another Birmingham County match, against Liverpool on this occasion, and you all have a chance of representing your city. You’re all good enough, so keep up the hard work!

Up The Ton!
