First of all, lets look at the facts. Just over three moths ago, E&S didn’t even have a district. In fact, they hadn’t had a team for a number of years. No team, no kit, no pitch, more importantly, no football for the elite players in the district. After a great deal of begging, stealing and borrowing, we now have an exceptionally talented team, a beautiful pitch and two, yes two kits! The future is bright. The future is bright green and yellow!
Now to the match. It was decided that we’d play four quarters of fifteen minutes, to help ease the lads in to the new season. After two of the four quarters, we were level at 0 – 0. Although we rode our luck at times during the first two quarters, we still managed to shut out Solihul thanks to some gutsy defending from Jayden and classy goalkeeping from Alex.
However, the constant lineup changes and alterations to the formation took their toll on E&S. We were not able to replicate the first half shutout during the second period and eventually lost the game 5 -1. Our goal came courtesy of a cooly converted Joshua Subhan penalty.
I left the match feeling nothing but pride. A group of relative strangers, from eleven different schools have come together to form a team and it will take time for them to learn each others games. Nevertheless, it WILL happen and the performances will continue to improve and therefore the results will follow.
We’re all standing on the brink of a bright, positive, exciting new dawn and we should all be pleased about that.
