Sorry the delay in publishing my ramblings, but work has taken over my life since Saturday. Amateur (very amateur) football coach by day, aspiring head teacher by night. Anyway…
The under 10s got their final morning off to a flying start when they raced into a 2-0 lead against Harborne, after scoring two quality goals. Cameron E’s goal was textbook! Rolled out by keeper Gerard, Kian picked up the ball before playing it down the line to Blessing, the Court Farm wing wizard then played a smart one-two with Cameron, who slotted the ball away sweetly.
However the lads couldn’t hold onto the lead and conceded four goals to a resurgent Harborne, whose fighting spirit was a thing of beauty.
After a few truthful words (from the boys – not me!), the lads dusted themselves off and picked themselves up for East Birmingham. It was great to see the lads take responsibility for their own post-match reflection, something that showed great maturity!
Against East they controlled the game for large parts, with lone defender Taylor imperious at the back. Despite having most of the ball and a number of chances, the boys just couldn’t make the breakthrough. Refusing to give up, the boys kept on plugging away until the final kick, when Taylor rifled home a free kick with the final seconds slipping away! Perseverance!
Overall the past three weeks have been a brilliant learning experience for the boys and they’ve come on leaps and bounds! Well done lads!
Next up was the U11s, who finished the Daniel Sturridge league stage as the only team with a 100% record and the only team to concede no goals. The way in which they bossed Harborne was truly a thing of beauty. For spells in the game they retained the ball for upwards of five minutes, passing it around the pitch like a mini-Barcelona.
As they knew at the start of the morning, it would be Sutton Coldfield in the final (again!) and once again it was a final settled by the odd goal. Unable to find the free flowing football that had characterised their earlier game, The Ton just couldn’t get going. This owes much to Sutton’s work rate and commitment, as they simply refused to let us get into our flow. After going two goals down, the boys picked themselves up and started to get into their groove. After pulling a goal back through Troy, the boys simply ran out of time and the silverware was Sutton’s.
As we’ve done on three occasions already this season, we’ll pick ourselves up and go again. There is still too much to play for this season for us to sulk and feel sorry for ourselves. With every blow comes an opportunity to grow and become stronger.
This is exactly what we will do, starting this Saturday against…Sutton!
Come on boys!!!!
Up The Ton!
