Man of the Match: William aka The Conductor

On a cold (very cold) evening in Erdington, the future of The Ton turned on the style and produced a performance full of skill, excitement and hard work. With the four Villa boys rested, it was a perfect opportunity for the rest of the squad to stake their claim for a starting place between now and the end of the season.

In Ilani’s absence, William took over central midfield duties and boy did he do it with style! Against his former club, the Abbey baller pulled the strings from the first whistle to the last. Not afraid to run at Holly Lane with the ball, the Phoenix midfielder also played balls with the precision of Iniesta. Constantly causing havoc in our opponent’s box, he rightly earned himself the man of the match award, to go with the hat trick that he had already bagged.

In only his second game for The Ton, under 9s player Bobby made a real statement and produced an assured performance that belied his tender years. From right-back the Brownmed youngster was as cool as a cucumber every time that he had the ball at his feet. Furthermore he was not shy when competing against bigger, older players and sent out a message to the rest of the squad.

Up front Cameron and Blessing linked up well throughout, with each of the strikers bagging a brace of their own. Further goals came from the right foot of Danny, the incredibly talented Kian and Che, who caused chaos down the right during the second half.

Overall it was a superb performance, built on a solid defensive foundation. Tiarno dropped back into defence to make the left-back position his own, whilst Gerard earned a great clean-sheet, but it was Taylor at the heart of the defence who stole the defensive show.

Overall it was a joy to watch. With a number of u10s games coming up, we have to make sure that it is only the start! The 2016/17 season is fast approaching boys!

Up The Ton!
