In glorious sunshine, the end of one era and the start of another took place amongst a flurry of goals and exciting action.

With the 2016/17 boys approaching their last game for The Ton (West Midlands County Schools’ FA Cup final), it’s almost time to say goodbye to a great bunch of lads and hello to the next great bunch of lads. That’s the best thing about Erdington and Saltley, we are blessed with great lads!

The changeover from one team to the next started yesterday when both teams locked horns at Wast Hills. The sixty minute encounter was divided into four quarters of pulsating action, with goals arriving from every direction!

The first 15 minutes were controlled by the younger of the two teams, with the 2017/18 boys taking a one goal lead via wing wizard Reece. This lead was built upon a strong defensive performance from the whole team, not least the back three of debutant Daniel, James and Toby, as well as keeper Tyrese.

The second quarter saw the older team compose themselves and reassert their authority, eventually ending the first half of the game 3-2 up. With Blessing causing chaos down the wing, they seemed to have the game sewn up until Reece bagged his second goal of the game just before the half time whistle to drag the younger team back into the match.

The 2016/17 boys saved their best football for the third quarter of the game when they bagged two more goals and kept the younger team shut out for the first time in the game.

Leading 5-2  at the start of the final 15 minutes, the game seemed all but over. However the 2017/18 team showed their resolve and grit by winning the last quarter 1-0 after a Resharne free kick to leave the game 5-3.

All in attendance were convinced that The Ton would once again have a team of pure quality!

Roll on 2017/18 but before then there’s the small matter of the WMCSFA Cup final!

Up The Ton!
