A Team Find Telford a Tough Nut to Crack!

Saturday 17th October 2020 @ Vale Stadium, Castle Vale

Erdington and Saltley A 1-6 Telford

Team: Jack, Miyano, Rhys, Yaw, Younussa, Dylan, Kyle, Omari, Lennon, Michael and Jason

Goal: Kyle

Man of the Match: Lennon – a combative performance from the under 11s captain; attempted to drive his teammates forward at every opportunity.

After a number of comprehensive victories, The Ton squared up against a Telford team bursting at the seams with talent. It turned out to be a barnstorming affair that will live long in the memory, even if we were unable to claim any points from the fixture.

After falling behind to an early Telford goal, the boys showed superb character to dust themselves off and equalise midway through the first period. After being upended on the edge of the Telford area, Lennon floated a ball towards the back post where Kyle pounced and poked the ball home following a short scramble.

Game on.

The rest of the game followed a repeated pattern of play – end-to-end action, a few Ton mistakes and some ruthless Telford finishing.

A huge amount of credit must go to the Telford boys who were merciless in their determination to make us pay whenever we slipped up. Their players were brilliant and we can’t wait to lock horns again later in the season.

Despite the one-sided nature of the score line, the boys played really well for long periods of the game, including hitting the woodwork twice and going close on a number of occasions. It certainly wasn’t a morning that left us showered in doom and gloom. In fact, it was definitely the opposite. We know what we did well against Telford, but we also know what we have to do better next time we play the Shropshire outfit!

Next time it definitely will be game on!

Well done boys!

Up The Ton!
