Rain, Rain Go Away!

The big match against Wolverhampton was called off yesterday evening due to the pitch being unplayable following a week of rain. Despite our (Erdington and Saltley) best efforts throughout the week to get the game moved to a weather-proof venue (Birmingham City FC training ground), as well as Wolverhampton’s best efforts to ensure that their pitch remained playable, the weather got the best of us. It’s not a great start to the winter part of the season, but fingers crossed we’ll get the game rearranged before the cricket whites come out later in the year!

On a different note… HAPPY BIRTHDAY TROY! The Blues and Marsh Hill wizard is 10 today! From everyone connected to The Ton, we hope you have a great day!

Rain, Hot Chocolate, Sausages and More Rain

West Midlands SFA – 7 a side

Saturday 8th November 2014

Erdington and Saltley 1 – 1 Kings Norton

Erdington and Saltley 2 – 1 Dudley

Erdington and Saltley 0 – 2 Solihull

Erdington and Saltley 1 – 3 Aston

Team: Harvey, Shaun, Brandon, Kane, Jermaine, Troy, Tyrese, Shilo, Tristan, Kruize

Scorers: Tyrese, Jermaine x2

On a morning more suited to swimming, The Ton experienced a number of differing emotions ranging from utter elation to frustration. Along the way there were a fair few cups of hot chocolate drank, more hot dogs than you could shake a stick at and one or two shivers. The Ton’s quest to win the West Midlands 7-a-side for the first time goes on for another year at least.

Although many of my memories of yesterday morning were washed away in the torrential downpour, I can recall a couple of sublime finishes from Jermaine, a sterling performance from Tyrese and a great morning for the young nippers Troy and Kane.

It’s certainly worth reminding ourselves that Troy and Kane are only in Year 5 and playing against bigger, older and stronger boys. It’s worth reminding ourselves of this fact because you wouldn’t have been able to tell this fact from yesterday’s performance. The young Villa and Blues boys had an almost telepathic understanding of each other’s game, constantly teaming up to cause the opposition no end of problems. Plus neither of them were bothered about the rain! Not once did they moan or give up, even for a split second. That’s not to say that the rest of the lads didn’t do things during the morning to be proud of, because they did. There was loads to be proud of. However I just wanted to make a point of our two youngest team members. Well done boys!

Back to the action on the pitch…it was ultimately a morning of ‘what ifs’. What if we’d played against Solihull in the same manner that we did against Dudley.  What if the heavens hadn’t opened and almost drowned us all! Despite the disappointment, there’s still a great deal of valuable lessons. The experience of missing out on a tournament that we could have won on another day will make us all stronger and wiser.

Well done boys. We can’t wait until next week when we get to put these lessons into practice against Wolverhampton.

Man of the Match – Kane

Up The Ton!

Thank you and you and also you

The district team costs a fair bit of money to run each year. More importantly the schools in the district do not contribute financially. It has been left to you, the wonderful parents and members of the Ton Army to keep us going. Whether you’ve donated money, found us a sponsor, bought a programme or sponsored a match, we would just like to say a massive thank you for your unrivalled support and kindness.

I won’t name any specific parent(s) on here, but will take this moment to thank the following businesses for their support:

Without the help of our wonderful parents and the above local businesses we’d be lost!
