Following the Christmas break, the boys got straight back into action with a morning packed full of stunning performances and overflowing with positives and pride.
First up the B Team finished their morning unbeaten with a win and a draw, although they were only seconds from picking up a pair of wins, before Aston’s last second equaliser! With Telpher, James, Jaiy, Bobby and Tyrese stepping up from the u10s, the performance of the team was even more pleasing. In midfield, Jaiy and Bobby showed composure and the ability to spot space and create openings. In defence, James was composed, while debutante Telpher was fearless in the tackle. In goal, Tyrese made a number of breathtaking saves, one in particular drawing gasps from the shell shocked crowd!
The older, more experienced A Team started off their quest for the Daniel Sturridge title with a comprehensive victory over East Birmingham. With further victories over Harborne and Aston, it was the second game of the morning that left the biggest impression on the lads and the Ton Army. Up against tournament favourites South Birmingham, the lads turned the tables on the incredibly talented opposition, after they taught us a footballing lesson when we last played a few weeks ago. This time round it was the Ton who created all of the clear goal scoring opportunities, squandering seven chances that would have been converted on another day with a bit of luck from the footballing gods. Nevertheless, the effort and application from the lads was amazing and we genuinely couldn’t have asked for more.
All morning the boys did us proud and to finish the first day on top of the league is a great start to proceedings.
2016 was a year full of history but these boys have the ability to write their own history in 2017.
Well done lads!
Up The Ton!
