Sometimes in football things just don’t go your way. Shots flash narrowly wide, passes fall just short and tackles fail to hit the spot by the finest of margins. Saturday was one of those days. Three 1-0 defeats shows just how fine the margins were on Saturday. Three 1-0 defeats shows just how close we came to qualifying for our fourth consecutive BPSFA Cup final.
Nevertheless, it simply wasn’t meant to be.
We started the morning with a pair of good results against Harborne and Aston, with goals from Che and Cameron respectively. Both goals had a touch of class about them and filled the boys with optimism ahead of three tough final three games.
After creating a number of great chances against favourites South Birmingham, we were caught with a sucker punch when the reds scored through their only shot on goal (although what a finish!).
That blow took its toll as the boys failed to pick themselves up against neighbours Sutton Coldfield.
With nothing left to play for other than pride, the boys found their mojo again against Kings Norton, dominating the game before once again conceding against the run of play. Although the result didn’t go our way, the performance was one full of energy and desire, with u10s Toby and Jaiy particularly lively.
It was just one of those days. One of those days when you just have to move on and go again.
Well done to Sutton Coldfield and South Birmingham who will contest a mouth watering final at Bodymoor Heath on Friday 5th May.
As for The Ton – we’ll pick ourselves up and go again on Saturday when we take on Gloucester for the Midland Challenge Trophy.
Come on boys!
Up The Ton!
