Under 10s Girls Shine in the Pouring Rain

Wednesday 4th April 2018 @ Hollyfields Club, Erdington

Erdington and Saltley u10s vs Woking u10s and South Birmingham u10s

Lost 2-1 vs. Woking

Won 4-0 vs. South Birmingham

Lost 2-0 vs. Woking

Team: Madison, Millie, Amne, Kayla, Lacy, Rihanna, Tiana, Savannah and Latia

With our three under 11s girls playing on the adjacent pitch for Birmingham Primary Schools and the rain pouring, today was far from easy for the under 10s members of the Ton squad. Yet as we’ve seen all season, these girls are a great bunch!

In our first game, the girls made the most of the fact that there was some grass to play on, stringing together a number of passes before captain Latia rifled the ball home for a 1-0 lead. In midfield, Rihanna was a physical menace, breaking up play at will and managing to stay on her feet in the thickest of mud! As time wore on and the rain continued to pour, conditions worsened, rendering it far from easy to play football. With minutes to play, we were still in front, only to see Woking dramatically snatch the victory in the dying moments of the game.

With no time to dwell on the Woking result, the girls bounced back to claim a 4-0 victory over 2017/18 rivals South Birmingham. With a brace from Savannah, a goal apiece from Latia and Lacy, some probing runs from Tiana and some excellent defending from Millie, Kayla and Amne, the girls were in control from the start of the game, giving us all plenty to be excited about ahead of 2018/19.

Alas the final game proved one step to far for the girls, as Woking turned on the style to make easy work of the muddy conditions. With their greatest threat coming down the wings, Woking scored a couple of great team goals and simply played better than we did. There’s no shame in losing to a better team on the day!

Overall it was a great day for the girls! With the year 6 girls playing for the City of Birmingham side and the year 5 girls proving next season could be even better than this, it was a great day indeed!

The final word goes to debutante Madison, who stepped between the posts for the first time and effortlessly blended in with the squad to give the impression that she had been around all season!

Well done girls!
