Birmingham County vs. Leeds Primary Schools’ FA

Saturday 3rd November @ Braemar Road

Birmingham ‘A’ 2 – 3 Leeds ‘A’

Birmingham ‘B’ 3 – 3 Leeds ‘B’

After the rain clouds had parted, the action began. All four Erdington and Saltley players did the district proud today. Everyone of them did me proud. Everyone of them did their family and friends proud. More importantly, they did themselves proud and at the end of the day, that is all that matters.

It would be unfair for me to write a full match report for the match that I was in charge of, as that would mean only showering praise on two of the four Ton players. However, I will mention highlights from both games.

Callum – all district managers commented on the skill, pace and work rate of Mr Brown, after he caused the Leeds B defence many problems. Scoring a goal, Callum was cool and calm throughout but also ‘put in a shift’.

Josh S – Adam’s M.O.M following a Herculean performance in the centre of the pitch. Josh gave the performance of a true caption and ensured that the Birmingham midfield was kept tight and compact, therefore allowing the team to build their attacks.

Treymaine – playing on the right and upfront, Trey was his usual dangerous self. His strength and pace created many chances down the channels and through the centre of the field. Furthermore, he came incredibly close to scoring on a number of occasions.

Jayden – he was here. He was there. He was everywhere. Playing both at the heart of defence and midfield, Jayden struck up a great partnership with Aston’s Loik and got onto the scoresheet following a neat left footed finish from the edge of the area.

I could not be prouder of our four representatives and know that the memories from today will stay with them for the rest of their lives. District football is about just that…creating lifelong memories. That is also what the whole of the Erdington and Saltley District squad is doing for me and for every other fan out there!

Well done boys and roll on next week! Time to show the rest of the West Midlands what The Ton have to offer!

You should be exceptionally proud of yourselves tonight! I certainly am!

Training Report

Well done to the eleven lads who turned out for training today, despite the brisk winter chill in the air. Some silky passing football was played and your attitude was exceptional. I just can’t wait for our next match after the way you performed today. A special shout out to Alex Tame, who received a glowing report from Robin (goalkeeper coach) after his efforts this morning.

Good luck to all of you who are playing tomorrow and keep checking the website for important updates.

Next up – Birmingham Primary Schools’ vs. Leeds Primary Schools’ @ Braemar Road, Saturday 3rd Novemeber.

Captain’s Blog 2 – Kings Norton Match Report

Erdington and Saltley 1 – 2 Kings Norton

Saturday 20th October 2012 @ Braemar Road

First Half

Our manager said before the game not to start sluggishly and we did just that. Kings Norton were on the attack straight away but Alex kept them at bay. We were struggling to come out of our own half. We were panicking. We only had one sub so the majority of us had to last the whole game. Kings Norton had attack after attack after attack but still they didn’t score. After that Trey kept their midfield quiet and we had the possession and were on the attack. We finally woke up! Bailey took the ball past the defender and shot. The keeper palmed it out for a corner. Trey floated it in and Josh knocked it down to Sahib and Sahib hit an unstoppable bullet in the bottom right corner. We were winning 1-0 against the run of play. The ref blew his whistle for half time. We all knew Kings Norton were going to come back stronger.

Second Half

They had the first attack in the second half but Alex tipped the ball over the bar.  They had three corners in a row and we somehow dealt with them.  Then Zane came on for Cedric and caused them all sorts of problems.
Ellis Jay scampered down the right wing and put in a great low ball in the box but nobody could get on the end of it.  Then we started to play like we were losing. There was five minutes left on the clock and we were holding on desperately.  Their right winger put a fantastic ball in the box and his teammate slotted it into the bottom left corner.  This was the wake up call we had needed all morning.
We gave it our all.  But in the last two minutes they caught us on the break down the left wing and drove the ball in the box and Alex couldn’t hold onto it and they scored, 2 – 1 to Kings Norton.  In the dying seconds Ethan won a freekick.  Trey crossed it in, Sam flicked it on and Sahib had a shot but they cleared it away.  The ref blew his whistle for full time.
Heartbreak. Again.

West Midlands 7-a-side Championships

Saturday 10th November @ Wolverhampton Wanderers Training Ground

Douglas Turner Way, Wolverhampton, WV3 9DU

Arrive at the training ground for 9:30am

Starts at 10:00am

Final scheduled for 12:30pm (hopefully we’ll be in this!)

Unlike the Birmingham 7-a-side two weeks ago, each district is only permitted to enter one team, due to the fact that teams from all around the West Midlands are competing. This means naming a squad of no more than nine players. Unfortunately this means more than the normal four will miss out.

The Squad will be named over the coming weeks.

Now that we have a new, totally amazing football kit, we need a badge. If you’re at a loose end during the half term, grab a piece of paper and a pencil and design a badge for the district. I’ve also added some blank badges to give you an idea of what shape to use. Don’t forget, any design must contain the words ERDINGTON AND SALTLEY DISTRICT.

Bring your designs to training on Saturday or to our next match and the best badge may well make it onto our kit!
