Under 10s Start 2019/20 With Silverware!

Saturday 7th September 2019 @ Vale Stadium, Castle Vale

Birmingham Primary Schools’ FA Under 10s 7-a-side Championship

Team 1: Jack, Joel, George, Reo, Lennon, Jason, Keon, Ebrima and Andrius

Team 2: Olaf, Mahliq, Omari, Rhys, Yaw, Younusa, Cairo, Kian and Uzi

Team 3: Remi, Daniel, Jack, Shane, Tobi, Sidney, Taio, Shane, Marshall and Shaun

With all three under 10s teams on show, albeit a little mixed up, Saturday’s season curtain raiser was a brilliant affair and one that will last in the memory for a long time.

Looking splendid in their new kit, the boys were a delight off the pitch and a pleasure to watch on the pitch. When you factor into this the brilliant atmosphere amongst the parents, it really was a great day even before considering the results and performances on it.

All three teams excelled at some stage in the morning.

Lamar’s team bounced back from some challenging games to claim a moral boosting draw against Sutton Coldfield u9s.

Kai’s team were an extra time goal away from reaching the final.

While my team bounced back from their loss to South Birmingham in the group stage to reverse the result in the final and lift the title in dramatic fashion.

With Jason rainbow flicking the ball over his rival’s head, all of the boys played with a smile on their faces and a skip in their step. It really did set us up for an exciting season!

Well done lads! The first of many we hope!

Plenty of Goals and Positives in Final Pre-Season Game!

Thursday 29th August 2019 @ Hobmoore Primary School

East Birmingham 1-9 Erdington and Saltley

Team: Danny, Reo, Kortney, Hughey, Jahkadi, Kayden, Joshua, Markie, Keon, Oscar and Lennon

Scorers: Markie x 4, Keon x 3, Lennon and Oscar

Man of the Match – Keon: his first hat trick for the under 11s!

On a beautiful late summer evening on a bumpy, lumpy pitch, the under 11s played in their final pre-season game ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

After a cagey and even opening third, the boys were level with East Birmingham and lacking spark.

Fortunately they were able to move up a few gears in the last two thirds of the game, while finally finding their shooting boots. With two hat-tricks, one apiece of Markie and Keon, and further goals from Oscar and Lennon, the boys were eventually good value for their victory.

A special mention must be reserved for Reo, who once again stepped up from the u10s with composure beyond his years, Joshua, who picked up several assists, and Keon, who bagged his first hat-trick for the under 11s.

Well done lads!

Five Star Under 10s in Coventry

Tuesday 13th August 2019 @ Alan Higgs Centre, Coventry City FC

Coventry City FC vs Erdington and Saltley

Team: Jack, George, Reo, Mahliq, Ebrima, Omari, Uzi, Kian, Cairo and Andrius

Goals: Ebrima, Uzi, Kian, Andrius and Mahliq

Man of the Match: The whole team for an outstanding performance!

A week after impressing against Birmingham City FC, a selection of the under 10s took to the field against another academy side, this time travelling down the road to Coventry City FC.

Despite a confident start, the team was shook up after the first quarter with the under 9s trio of Kian, Andrius and Cairo coming into the side and adding a spark in front of goal that saw the boys take a one goal lead. However, the lead secured through the boot of Kian was short lived when Coventry City equalised almost immediately.

This blow was not enough to undo the great work of the boys and they bounced back in style, scoring four more goals without conceding.

With Reo and George marshalling the back line and Jack in confident form, the boys were secure defensively, allowing the attacking talent of Ebrima, Mahliq, Cairo, Kian, Uzi and Andrius to flourish. At times, the movement and passing of the lads was a joy to behold and it certainly made people sit up and watch on what was a warm summer evening.

Roll on the season!

Well done boys!

Kane Taylor moves to Man City and is called up by England

A huge congratulations to Kane Taylor – 2014-16 captain and all-time leading male scorer – who finds himself coming to the end of what has been a very eventful week!

If being called up to an England training camp wasn’t already enough, Kane made national headlines with his move from Aston Villa to Manchester City on the back of a number of impressive years at the Birmingham giants.

Kane played for The Ton between 2014 and 2016, scoring 87 goals during his two years with the district. As part of the highly successful 2015/16 under 11s, Kane helped the district claim an unprecedented seven trophies, including the West Midlands County Schools’ FA league title, which remains the only time we have lifted the regional title. Throw into the mix, a national final and a prestigious honour at the Birmingham Sports Awards, and it’s safe to say that Kane is a Tonn legend.

We all wish him the best ahead of his move to Manchester City and look forward to watching him grow as a footballer in the coming years.

Well done Kane!

A selection of the 2019/20 under 10s and 11s travelled to Wast Hills to take part in a pre-season festival organised by Birmingham City FC. Competing against academy and district sides, the boys were superb throughout the pleasant summer evening.

In a number of entertaining games, the boys put in a great shift as they locked horns with the Blues academy sides.

Throughout the evening, all of the boys impressed the excited crowd who watched on from the perimeter of the pitch. From Ebrima weaving his way through the opposition to Ethan standing firm in defence, the boys were brilliant and left all in no doubt that 2019/20 is going to be a very exciting season!

A big thank you to Birmingham City for kindly inviting us to participate in this enjoyable festival.

Well done boys!

Awards Afternoon 2018/19

Saturday 13th July 2019 @ Hollyfields Club, Erdington

Erdington and Saltley Primary Schools’ FA Presentation

On a very special afternoon, at the end of a very special season, we welcomed a very special guest to present some very special trophies to our very special players!

Former England, Aston Villa and Manchester City striker Darius Vassell continued his support of the district by joining us at Hollyfields Club to present our end of season awards.

At the end of a season when the girls dominated once again and the boys won the BPSFA league for the first time ever, along with another four trophies and two national finals, there was much to celebrate.

A huge thank you to all of the players and parents who have made 2018/19 such a special year. A special thank you to everyone who made the presentation so memorable, including the families of Lennon, Callam and Markie for their generous donations towards the trophies, decorations and room hire, as well as everyone who donated raffle prizes and food. Without the help of the Erdington and Saltley family, none of it would have been possible.

Finally, thank you to Hollyfields for their ongoing support and to Darius for making a special day even more memorable.

Girls Squad 2019/20

Dear Parent/Carer and Trialist,

Last night was an incredibly enjoyable evening for us as coaches. The weather was glorious but more importantly, the football was superb. The attitude of every girl was incredible. All girls gave it their very best and exemplified everything that we aim for in terms of attitude – perfect manners and a great work ethic.

This decision has not been an enjoyable one for us. We have found it incredibly difficult to choose a squad from the girls who attended last night, plus a number of girls who played for the district this season but could not attend yesterday due to a variety of reasons.

If you have not been selected for the team, please keep your head held high and be proud of your efforts and the fact that you were selected for the trials. By picking you, your school were acknowledging your undeniable talent.

Good luck for the upcoming football season and if you do not play for a team, we can recommend SJB Football Club who are based in Shard End. If you would like to learn more about joining this side, please contact Ian Bancroft on 07554474021.

To those who were selected, congratulations and we will be in touch soon with information about training and the 2019/20 season.

Thank you

Jordan and Callam

WMCSFA Cup Winners 2019!

Saturday 22nd June 2019 @ Vale Stadium, Castle Vale

West Midlands County Schools’ FA Cup Final

Erdington and Saltley 3-1 Solihull

Team: Danny, Jeval, Romaeo, Rhys, Elijah, Kian, Callam, Markie, Kyran, Toby and Daniel

Goals: Markie, Romaeo and Kyran

Man of the Match: Romaeo – a source of attacks during the first period when he patrolled the right wing and then a defensive rock in the second half after dropping into the back line.

A thunderous Markie strike set the lads on their way and helped the district lift the WMCSFA Cup for the fourth time in five seasons.

In scorching June heat, the lads continued their fine form from the previous week’s trip to Liverpool, with an excellent performance against a very talented Solihull side.

Three minutes into the game and Markie popped up to unleash an unstoppable strike from way outside the area. Despite being at full stretch, the keeper had no chance as Markie’s shot crashed against the underside of the bar and into the net to give the lads an early lead.

Callam then weaved his way through the Solihull defence and skipped past several challenges before having the ball poked from his foot as he looked to pull the trigger. Moments before that, a sublime Romaeo right wing cross evaded the outstretched foot of Callam and with the score remaining 1-0, Solihull knew they were very much in the game.

Half-term saw the scoreline evenly  poised and it was Solihull who started the second period on the front foot. Nevertheless, just when it looked like Solihull might level the game, an excellent long distance strike from man of the match Romaeo after a Toby effort had bounced off the bar, saw the boys put a bit of breathing space between them and the boys in blue.

With nine minutes left on the clock, Solihull capitalised after we failed to clear our lines and reduced the deficit to a single goal.

Some excellent last ditch defending from Kian and Romaeo, added to a general feeling amongst the boys that they were prepared to throw their bodies on the line for the cause, saw the team steady the ship and weather the storm.

Bursting down the left, Callam aimed a cross to the back post for the hard-working Kyran to slot home and restore our two goal lead.

From back to front, the boys were brilliant today and played with their heart on their sleeve. Not afraid to dive into 50/50 challenges, the whole team backed each other up and there was a genuine sense of team spirit on show.

It was a great way to bring the curtain down on a season that has seen the team collect five trophies, win our first ever BPSFA league and reach two national finals, not to mention another three runners-up finishes and a third place in the national 9-a-side.

Historic. Simply superb.

Thank you boys! We will never forget the past twelve months.

r grip

Man of the Tournament: Tavani – One assist and a bag of tricks down the wing!

Our form in the lead up to the Nationals had left everyone feeling a little pessimistic as we travelled north to the home of the newly crowned champions of Europe. Yet we needn’t had worried! Not one bit!

The opening game of the day saw us do everything but score, as the lads peppered the Chelmsford goal from all angles. Yet despite our promising start, the game will be remembered for the nonsensical sending off of captain Toby.

With our skipper watching from the stand, we rolled up our sleeves and earned our first win of the day, beating Plymouth 1-0 thanks to a superb Romaeo strike from distance. The tempo of the game was dictated by the superb Tavani who brilliantly filled the big gap left in Toby’s absence.

We found ourselves in a strong position after two games, only to strengthen our grip at  the top of the table with another excellent performance, this time against Sunderland. A weaving Tavani run down the right saw him evade the challenge of four Mackems, before his pinpoint cross was superbly finished by Markie – his 61st goal of the season.

Having qualified from the group unbeaten and with three clean sheets, the lads found themselves up against tournament favourites Liverpool. In a repeat of our 2016 national final quarter final game, the boys matched their northern peers blow for blow. Yet despite their best efforts, they conceded midway through the game after a great passing move from the boys in red. Not to be deterred, the boys countered and had a chance of their own that was brilliantly saved by the Liverpool keeper who was quick to sprint off his line.

That left a third place play-off. With their spirits dented, the lads picked themselves up and threw every last ounce of energy at Chelmsford. Their efforts were rewarded with a third place finish and their fourth clean sheet in five games.

Third in the country. Wow! What an amazing achievement!

The boys from Erdington and Saltley did good!

Well done boys!

2019/20 Squad Announcement

Dear Parent/Carer,

This time of the year is a very exciting one but also a very difficult one. Picking a new team means dissapointing more boys than you please. The decision about the boys who miss out on the squad is an incredibly difficult one and this year was is different.

All of the boys who made it through to the third and final round did themselves proud. They were a joy to work with and a credit to you and their schools.

To those boys who do not make it through to the final squad, please do not be too upset. You gave it everything and should hold your head up high. We have loved watching you over the past few weeks and wish you the very best over the coming season.

Congratulations to those boys who have been selected, although the hard work starts now as you look to cement your place in the team.

Finally, the past few weeks would not have been possible if it wasn’t for your support. Thank you parents.

Kind regards,

Erdington and Saltley Primary Schools’ FA
